Bio
With nearly two decades of experience in higher education leadership, Dr. Alicia A. Bourque brings a student-centered and developmental approach to student affairs and a deep commitment to cura personalis or care for the whole person.
As the Vice-President of Student Affairs at Loyola University New Orleans, Dr. Bourque's portfolio includes Athletics and the University Sports Complex, the Loyola University Police Department which includes Parking and Shuttle Services, Multicultural Student Affairs, Residential Life and Event Services, Student Conduct, Title IX, and the University Counseling Center. She also has operations oversight of contracted vendor partners including Barnes and Noble in the Bookstore, Pepsi in beverage services, Ochsner Health in Student Health Services, and Sodexo in Dining Services.
Dr. Bourque chairs and serves on a number of university committees including the Strategic Planning Committee, Emergency Planning Team, Threat Assessment Team, Transition Team, and Student Leadership Council. Her community philanthropy includes the ARC of Greater New Orleans and Second Harvest.
Dr. Bourque has taught at the graduate and undergraduate levels in courses ranging from introductory psychology to psychotherapy practice. She is a member of several professional organizations including the Jesuit Association of Student Affairs Professionals and has presented at national and international conferences including at the American College Personnel Association annual convention in Montreal, Canada. She has authored articles in publications such as Conversations on Jesuit Higher Education and Medium Magazine; appeared on news outlets such as WDSU, a local NBC affiliate; and been quoted in publications such as the National Catholic Reporter and nola.com.
Dr. Bourque is a licensed psychologist and holds a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi, completing her pre-doctoral internship at Texas Tech University, and a post-doctoral master's degree in clinical psychopharmacology from Alliant International University.
Dr. Bourque is known for her dedication to a high level of customer service in student life and her commitment to excellence earned her the 2010 Coadjutor Optimus Award, one of the highest honors bestowed by the university.
